Christmas is swiftly approaching and even though we don't 'do Christmas' (ba humbug!!), it has got us thinking about the affect it used to have on us in our younger days. The main thing that springs to my mind is my pages long Christmas 'wish lists' penned to 'Santa' in the hopeless pursuit of 'Mr Frosty'. Disappointment aside, we have now learned the true meaning of Christmas and as a result the dust has settled on childhood fantasy. That said, there are certain 'fantasies' which are almost etched in stone, so here is a list of our Top 5 'fantasy presents' which will take a serious amount of 'growing up' before we give up on them:
ALL I WANT FOR 'THE HOLIDAYS' IS ......
1. A HOVER BOARD
A future equivalent of the 'skate board' .... or so we dreamed.. thanks to the creators of the 'Back to the Future' (BTTF) trilogy.
Anni: I cannot be alone in thinking this is a plausible expectation. Seriously, I bet they have already been manufactured and all the 'rich kids' got them back in the 80s... (and are now bored with them).
Bee: Yeeeeeaaah, down with rich kids!! ..lol. Actually that would be a good name for a band.
Anni: Do try and stay on target B (see what I have to put up with?)
Bee: Hey, genius cannot be switched off! =)
2. MALL MADNESS
Just the best game EVER!! Watch the video.... shopping as a game... yes please!!
Anni: I cannot express how much I coveted this game (yes 'covet'... God forgive my little soul). It was so clever in tapping into the natural 'hunter purchaser' instinct of all young girls.
Bee: Oh my days, this was on your list every year. Most of all I just really wanted to swipe the card. I wanted the game but I think I was a bit more realistic with my requests than you. HA!
Anni: LOL. It was expensive, but so was that Sylvania Tree house thing... and I got that. I am so sad for knowing this but they have re-issued the game under the 'Miley Cyrus' umbrella of toys. Ugh!
Bee: Well thats you sorted for your next Birthday then =)
3. MR FROSTY
Mr Frosty 1980-2000.... a glorified snow cone, come status symbol.
Mr Frosty 2000 + (I prefer the earlier version myself)
Bee: Okay, this pic doesn't do it justice but back in the day, if you owned a Mr Frosty you were king.
Anni: Totally! There are two calibres of people in life. Those who 'had' Mr Frosty .... and those who 'wanted' Mr Frosty.
Bee: Hey there was no shame in not having one (as you know we were that calibre...lol). At the end of the day, you have to think as a parent. It's all well and good when you get the thing, but whose got money to keep buying the syrup that goes over the snow cone?? That could have been any number of items on your weekly shopping list.
Anni: True, but tell that to 9 year old Anni... I cannot tell you how many childhood nights I wasted dreaming of that 'glorified snow cone machine' (sigh) I'm over it anyway, I mean they bought us a T.V and I was still looking amongst the wrapping paper for that stupid thing..... I'm totally over it. Frrroooooooossssttttttttttyyyy!! FFFFFFFFRRRROOOOOOSSSSTTTTTTTYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!! lol.
4. MARTY McFLY'S "NIKEY BOOTS" FROM 'BACK TO THE FUTURE II' (BTTF2)
Another future prediction from the creators of BTTF 2... trainers that adjust to your feet. Genius!!
Bee: No true 'sneaker freak' can say that they didn't want a pair of these. I am still heavily in pursuit of these master pieces.
Anni: I have to say, they would absolutely kill with a baggy slash-neck sweater and some jeggins.
Bee: No matter what anyone says, 'Yeezy's' or whatever their called don't even come close. Do you realise they have a petition going to bring them out (the same ones Marty wears in BTTF 2) as trainers for purchase. You know what, maybe we should bring them out. Imagine that.
Anni: Hmmmmm?? Picture it, your walking down the street and its starts to rain on your new suede 'kicks'.... "No their not scotch guarded!..." Your first impulse is "RUN!!"... But no, stop!.... your wearing your special "Air Marty's" (thats what we're calling em). A smile spreads over your face, you lift your head up and let the rain fall on your face (not your hair...lol). You start to dance in the rain.... then at the bottom of the screen the tagline appears (maybe a voiceover too) "...because 'Air Marty's' won't let you down."
5. CLARISSA'S WARDROBE
Clarissa of "Clarissa Explains it All"... those who were unlucky enough to have missed this 90s phenomenon, one word, 'youtube'! Must see T.V for any pre pubescent youngster of the 90s.
Anni:Don't get it twisted, we had some heavy 'garms' when we were younger. Our mom hooked us up!
Bee: You know this!
Anni: Exactly! With our mom being in fashion it was like having our own bespoke taylor. Remember the body suits and the cut off denims with multi colour leggings underneath B? People have only started dropping the whole 'shorts and leggings' thing just the other day.
Bee: Trend setters! ...lol. We should see if we can dig out the photos and put them up. What about the Fred Flintstone 'bermuda shorts'?
Anni: Aah, confession is good for the soul!! ..lol. Anyways, as you pointed out, the whole 90s look seems to have come back around.... leggins over shorts, high top fades, basketball boots, doc martins and JC style chequered shirts. I think our last 'wish' would be well spent on a re-vamped 'Clarissa style' wardrobe.
Bee: Thats a good one. Although, I was gonna say 'a chance to be part of the cast of a Peter Engel sitcom/ teen serial' like California Dreams, Saved By the Bell or even Boy Meets World... (not Peter Engel, but you get my drift). Actually, folks, that seems like another blog.... in fact, I feel another blog coming on!!
Anni: Lord help us...lol.
Well there you go. Anyone who can supply any of the gifts above, we'll be very grateful. You won't get anything in return... other than maybe a smile and our sincere appreciation =)
Until next time.... hold tight ;0) ..... and don't stop dreaming!!
Oh yes, before we forget. Look out for our Winter Sale.... the "final countdown"... to very generous reductions is very near.... very very near!
